Say hello to
the TKO team!
The TKO team that lives by the creed; Always do the right thing and learn to live with the consequences.
Guy Forster, TKO Founder
What do you love most about your job?
I love working at TKO because no 2 days are the same, we can go from being on a trip meeting interesting new people in San Jose, to sitting in our meeting room in sunny Haywards Heath planning our next project! I also enjoy working in a relatively small team as it allows me the flexibility to get involved in everything and learn all aspects of the company.
What do you enjoy doing in your own time?
I love to spend my weekends catching up with friends, visiting new places and trying new food! One of my favourite things to do is visit Brick Lane market in London on Sunday’s, to try all the street food on offer and have a beer in the sunshine..
We like to think of ourselves as one big family. This attitude and the relationships that form because of this have everything to do with our focus, determination and success.
What’s your funniest memory from working at TKO?
My funniest memory has to be encountering a real live sheep in our reception hallway, which was all the more surreal given the urban location of the TKO office. As I walked down the stairs the sheep wandered into view and started nibbling at the yucca plant. I’m not sure it enjoyed the plant and it soon lost interest. It’s strange when you encounter an animal, which when outside its normal environment suddenly gives the impression of being extremely dangerous! Of course, it was still just a sheep and with a little coaxing it trotted off into the car park and sat under the window. A few hours later a farmer turned up and took the sheep away. I bet that sheep amuses all the lambs with the story every year.
What is your favourite thing to do at the weekend?
My favourite thing to do at the weekend is escaping to my beach hut. Sunbathing [except for 11 months of the year], fishing, kayaking, barbecuing, drinking, sleeping – it really is a reset button for the body and soul.
“The TKO team are like no other
team I’ve ever worked with.”
Favourite TKO trip?
A trip with the TKO team to Helsinki in 2009 in late May included a night out with the editorial crew of Prosessori (the national electronics title which has since sadly been closed by its short-sighted publishing company). At the encouragement of the Prosessori journalists, I had enjoyed a little too much of the local Koskenkorva spirit and came out of a bar at midnight to find that it was still daylight – a slightly surreal experience.
How has TKO changed since you started?
In 1998, publishers of print magazines controlled the gateway between electronics component manufacturers and their customers. The internet has blown the gateway wide open. Marketing communication has become a much more diverse, but much less well controlled and curated, activity.
We certainly like to live by the work hard, play hard mantra. Results are our number one priority, but we know how to smile along the way too.
What do you love most about working at TKO?
I love working at TKO as it never gets boring. It is a lovely office space to work in and the team are all very supportive of each other. For me personally, being a part-timer, I love the flexibility it offers me so I can get a healthy life work balance and get time to enjoy my 2 wonderful grandsons and our second home in France.
What is your favourite memory of TKO?
I think my favourite TKO trip was to a Posh hotel in Surrey where we attended a wine tasting evening (Too much wine!!!) with a sumptuous meal. We all stayed the night and the following day had a lovely spa treatment of our choice. It was a great team building/relaxing time and good to spend leisure time with work colleagues.
“We really are like
one big family.”
How would you describe TKO in 3 words?
Different, quirky, fun!
What is your favourite thing to do at the weekend?
Just relaxing this could be doing different days out or seeing friends and having a few drinks.
There’s a very unique vibe in the TKO office – Relaxed, yet focused. Professional, yet informal. Hard-working, yet stress-free.
What made you want to start an apprenticeship with TKO?
I remember seeing this job online and reading the description, I spent time researching about the job role more in depth as well as going through the TKO website.
The more I found out about TKO and being a marketing consultant, the more passionate I felt towards the job role!
I decided this was something I would really love to do, on top of that TKO deals with the electronics industry which I didn’t know too much about, but the more I have learned about it over the past month the more I realise how amazing and fascinating this job opportunity is!
I remember when Rhianna called me to say I got the apprenticeship, I was so happy that I cried!
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I love to watch cooking videos of dishes I never heard of and then make them myself.
I like to use my free time to invest in learning languages that I’m interested in and I enjoy visiting new places and doing new things that I have never done before.
We certainly know how to work hard and our client success rating demonstrates this. But it’s so important that we all enjoy our work, and of course, have fun along the way. That’s the TKO way!
What made you want to start an apprenticeship at TKO?
I was looking for a career and when I saw TKO’s advertisement, I knew it would suit me perfectly, it’s a small team so you get that family feel immediately.
It’s a fantastic entry point into marketing for an apprentice and it’s an added bonus that it deals with the forever growing and fascinating technology industry .
What makes you exited for your future at TKO?
Honestly during the brief period I’ve had at TKO so far , it’s a combination of a few things, first of all the job itself is very interesting and like no other. Dealing with technology as well means that I will be seeing first hand how the innovation of technology effects the industry and people in society as a whole. Of course adding to this the travelling element makes me feel very excited, when it is safe to do so, I can’t wait to step on that plane.
And of course, our office wouldn’t be the same without the ever cheeky, ever tail-waggling, ever treat-hunting, Kizzy the office dog!
